On Psychic

Psychic is a high-fantasy manuscript still in the writing. Its ground is Jungian analytical psychology — above all the archetypes and the collective unconscious — woven through with dream symbolism, alchemical figure, and the eight-function typology dear to the author, set as the hidden structure of the continent, of national character and of myth.

The Liminal Ocean is the mother of this world — an ether condensed from the collective unconscious. The twelve archetypes drift upon it as bodies of force; under psychotropism they congeal into the Psychic continent and its eight dimensional anchors. Each realm therefore bears the tone of certain archetypes from birth — Authesia under the Mother and the Innocent, Philia under the Lover and the Caregiver, and so on.

Why the form of an ancient manuscript

A manuscript — not a modern wiki — answers the metaphor of the world itself: vellum is the layering of memory, the rubricated initial is the intrusion of the unconscious, the Latin subtitles are the archetype echoed across tongues. The reader meets the continent in the posture of one turning the leaves of an old book, not in the posture of one searching an index.
